Sex Worker's Union
Urban Infill in Portland's Old Town/ChinaTown
Idea
This project aims to address union related needs of sex workers.
The facade acts as a one way screen to reframe the voyeuristic position sex workers are often in. The public side normalizes sex work as a career through acting as a shared public leisure and outreach space. As sex workers are particurlarly vulnerable to discrimination and trauma, the more private side focuses on care through health and hygiene. The building will also hold a 24-hour childcare center, and accommodate the non profit group STROLL which offers financial education and harm reduction resources.
